Why is it people assume that a white boy with a fade & diamond stud earrings is a thug or trying to be black?
I wonder this because I have a fade haircut and dress "urban" and have diamond stud earrings, but am a senior in college and not a thug/crackhead/etc. I work about 40 hrs a week and have since I was in high school. I guess I have this question bc I grew up in Chicago and LA and the cultures were all blended bc I was a military kid. I just think I am "urban" but in the south a lot of white people seem to think I want to be "black" or a thug. Why is this? You cannot act a race or ethnicity. I am a very diverse person though, I don't really like white girls that much at all (dating wise) and prefer latinas and black girls more because they are more naturally curvy and gorgeous. Why is it people have a negative attitude based upon looks and who I like (to date, be friends with, etc)?? Is it just me?

Because you are.
It reminds them of black guys.
People in this country still have very closed minds…A lot of people cannot accept that someone who looks different can be just as good of a person as someone who dresses in a suit and tie with no piercings. This country still has a lot of misconceived prejudices that will take a long time to weed completely out. Just ignore them.
Unfortunately….. people, especially in Chicago, are not going to change anytime soon. Chicago has been known to be one of the most segregated cities in the country. That was suprising to me. So, there are alot of stereotypes here too. I also live in Chicago and have had many of the same questions. It doesn’t seem to be something that is going to change soon. I’m sorry you have encountered so many people who look at you in a negative way, that’s unfortunate. The only advice I can offer to you is be yourself no matter what. You’ll find people who accept you for who you are, and if they don’t, take comfort in the fact that they are missing out the real you
People can be very judgmental. People can’t appreciate the good in other cultures. I can appreciate the fact that you are influenced by black culture. I happen to love white boys who dress like my people…as long as its real. When you try to hard…ppl can tell. Also…don’t down white girls because nowadays they have BODY…whether they have butt implants or not…they’re trying to give us a run for our money. lol But keep your head up and remain focused on your goals. There are haters everywhere. As long as you’re real with yourself there should be no problem.
Well, at first they might think you are from the south, and you don’t see alot for a white guys trying to dress urban so they would think you are trying to be black. And cities like where you come from its common for ANYBODY to dress urban, so its expected and thats what most people wear out there.
